Traveling with Disease

Mankind has long believed that our scientific prowess will enable us to learn all the mysteries of the universe, and protect ourselves from an hostile Nature.  Look at all the astounding medical advances of the last century.  Man and his science can conquer anything.  Who needs God?  As it happens, we might just be running up against the wall, just maybe Nature has some things to teach us, mainly humility.  This article from the latest issue of Scientific American is alarming to say the least.  When it comes down to it, the only defense hospitals have against the latest generation of resistant organisms is extreme cleanliness.  We should keep in mind when traveling that cleanliness is vital, washing our hands and cleaning surfaces we must touch, etc.  (You must have wondered what this post had to do with traveling, one of the topics of this blog.)  Read this.

Preserving Memories

Most of our memories are now”saved” on hard drives, cds or other forms of storage, not printed as with pictures taken on film.  Videos and movies are either in similar digital format,  or on tape which degrades over times.  Read this article on the topic.   Then make plans to preserve your memories.  Don’t you want your grandchildren and great grandchildren to admire your “movie star” good looks?

Little Manatee River

Shots from a canoe trip on the Little Manatee River last weekend.  Cloudy at the time, but a very peaceful day.  Note how clear the water is.  No rain for weeks helped, but also meant not a lot of water in the river.  But a great day.  Highly recommend the Canoe Outpost in Wimauma, Fl.  Very clean, well run little business.

Bradenton Artist Colony

I went down to Bradenton yesterday to take some photos at the Artist’s Colony there.  A 40 acre area south of downtown houses several working artists and several shops, restaurants and such.  Here are a few of the shots from that short trip.
