1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We recently took a cruise from Vancouver, B.C. up the inside passageway to Alaska. \u00c2\u00a0We sailed on the Regatta with Oceania Cruise Lines.\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.oceaniacruises.com\">https:\/\/www.oceaniacruises.com<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0 Oceania is a mid-size cruise line, the Regatta and her two sister ships hold 684 passengers and about 450 crew members. \u00c2\u00a0They do a very nice job, up-scale without being terribly expensive. \u00c2\u00a0We got into Vancouver late and boarded the ship abut noon the following day. \u00c2\u00a0Vancouver is a popular embarkation port for cruises, particularly to Alaska, and sports a very nice cruise terminal. \u00c2\u00a0Sailing away from the terminal:<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Leaving vancouver cruise terminal\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A happy cruiser, my roommate for the trip:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It was a beautiful evening sailing away from British Columbia toward Alaska. \u00c2\u00a0Some pretty sunsets:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The next day was spent cruising at sea, eating and relaxing around the ship. \u00c2\u00a0One of the problem with cruising in general and particularly on Oceania is the temptation to eat way too much. \u00c2\u00a0The ship features a \u00e2\u20ac\u0153formal\u00e2\u20ac\u009d dining room, two speciality restaurants, Italian and a steak house, and a informal buffet style restaurant. \u00c2\u00a0There is also a poolside snack bar where you can get simple fare like hamburgers, salads, etc. \u00c2\u00a0The food was excellent and the service impeccable. \u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The scenery sailing up that day wasn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t terribly exciting, but hanging out on the ship and relaxing was what the doctor ordered, or at least what he should have ordered. \u00c2\u00a0We woke up the next morning to the snow-capped peaks of southeast Alaska.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"first alaska snow detail.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Standing on the top deck watching the ship approach Wrangell, I took this shot of the pool deck on the Regatta:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The big town of Wrangell, Alaska has a \u00c2\u00a0population about 2,000. \u00c2\u00a0Some information on the history of Wrangell:\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/alaskaweb.org\/cmtys\/wrangell.html\">http:\/\/alaskaweb.org\/cmtys\/wrangell.html<\/a>,\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/alaskaweb.org\/cmtys\/ftwrangel.html\">http:\/\/alaskaweb.org\/cmtys\/ftwrangel.html<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"wrangel hdr degas dancers 1.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Near the dock where we disembarked for our exciting walk around Wrangell was an abandoned skiff.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"wrangell width=\"599\" height=\"529\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>One of the first things we did was to visit Bob\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s IGA Supermarket. \u00c2\u00a0This was really good. \u00c2\u00a0Noticed this guy walking his canoe down the street. \u00c2\u00a0I can understand walking your dog.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"DSCF1087.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.travelswithwesley.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/DSCF1087.jpg\" alt=\"DSCF1087\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Wrangell did have a nice \u00c2\u00a0museum celebrating the history of the town and surrounding area. \u00c2\u00a0The museum shared a building with the community center. \u00c2\u00a0There was a small \u00e2\u20ac\u0153flea\u00e2\u20ac\u009d sale going on, and I bought a photographic print called<em> Quiet Reflections<\/em>. \u00c2\u00a0The young lady, named Charity, had quite an eye. \u00c2\u00a0You can find her on Facebook as AlaskaCherry. \u00c2\u00a0We then walked up to Petroglyph Beach, where there were carvings on stone by ancient Alaskans. \u00c2\u00a0Unfortunately, the tide was in, and the carvings ere covered. \u00c2\u00a0I did take this sweet shot:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"petroglyph bay charcoal 78.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On the walk back, we heard a warning that a giant crab had escaped his trap.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"giant crab wrangell.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We managed to avoid injury. \u00c2\u00a0A nice visit to Wrangell over, we returned to the
