{"id":658,"date":"2013-09-25T11:01:21","date_gmt":"2013-09-25T18:01:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.travelswithwesley.com\/?p=658"},"modified":"2013-09-26T05:38:18","modified_gmt":"2013-09-26T12:38:18","slug":"ireland-a-short-day-in-dublin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.travelswithwesley.com\/?p=658","title":{"rendered":"Ireland &#8211; A short day in Dublin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We spent a recent short, very long day in Dublin on the front end of a two week tour of the Emerald Isle. \u00c2\u00a0Fighting jet lag and trying to stay up to get in the time zone, we took a sightseeing tour bus and walked a bit. \u00c2\u00a0Dublin is a fascinating, busy city. \u00c2\u00a0Ireland has approximately 8 million inhabitants (people, probably more sheep) and 4.2 million of them live in Dublin. \u00c2\u00a0Which makes the country side that much more attractive, no? \u00c2\u00a0I guess you would call O&#8217;Connell Street the hub of Dublin&#8217;s downtown. \u00c2\u00a0The monument below is in honor of Daniel O&#8217;Connell, The Liberator. \u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.clarelibrary.ie\/eolas\/coclare\/people\/daniel.htm\">http:\/\/www.clarelibrary.ie\/eolas\/coclare\/people\/daniel.htm<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Daniel OConnell monument.jpg\" alt=\"Daniel OConnell monument\" src=\"http:\/\/www.travelswithwesley.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Daniel-OConnell-monument.jpg\" width=\"399\" height=\"600\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Trinity College, \u00c2\u00a0a well know institution of higher learning in Dublin, \u00c2\u00a0houses the Book of Kells, a 9th century gospel manuscript. \u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tcd.ie\/Library\/bookofkells\/\">http:\/\/www.tcd.ie\/Library\/bookofkells\/<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0 Below is a pretty lawn near the library housing the Book of Kells.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Trinity College.jpg\" alt=\"Trinity College\" src=\"http:\/\/www.travelswithwesley.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Trinity-College.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"399\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We visited Christ Church Cathedral, founded in 1028 AD. \u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.christchurchdublin.ie\/Visitors.htm\">http:\/\/www.christchurchdublin.ie\/Visitors.htm<\/a>. \u00c2\u00a0Below is the altar area of the Cathedral.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Altar of Christ Church.jpg\" alt=\"Altar of Christ Church\" src=\"http:\/\/www.travelswithwesley.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Altar-of-Christ-Church.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"435\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In Christ Church Place, a common area, I found this rather strange sculpture, <em>Millennium child<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Millenium Child silver efex fine art-2.jpg\" alt=\"Millenium Child silver efex fine art 2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.travelswithwesley.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Millenium-Child-silver-efex-fine-art-2.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"399\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The River Liffey runs through the center of Dublin. \u00c2\u00a0A rather uninspired photo of same.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"river liffey hdr efex soft-2.jpg\" alt=\"River liffey hdr efex soft 2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.travelswithwesley.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/river-liffey-hdr-efex-soft-2.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"399\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We finished the day with dinner at J.W.
